Chief Instructor: Adam LaClair

Operating the LaClair Academy of Mixed Martial Arts from 1995 to 2007 in Lyndonville Vermont, Mr. LaClair has coached numerous people to personal growth, strength of character, confidence, fitness, technical skill, athletic preparation, and other training goals.  Many members of Team LaClair have competed in grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, and MMA tournaments over the years, bringing back a large array of trophies, medals, ribbons, and championship belts.  Aaron Fondry, a Team LaClair affiliate and professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter (retired), won and defended the Burlington Brawl MMA welterweight (156-170 pounds) title.
Mr. LaClair has also worked extensively with various individuals in law enforcement, as well as military personnel.

Currently, Mr. LaClair is teaching weekly group classes at the Lyndonville and Newport locations.  He also teaches occasionally at his Endicott, New York affiliate school (https://www.facebook.com/JitzHappens), as well as volunteer coaching at Binghamton University (SUNY).  He is also available for seminars and private coaching.

Mr. LaClair enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion of the martial arts, and looks forward to helping individuals reach their personal training goals, whatever they may be.

 

Coach LaClair holds the following certifications and notable achievements:

  • Began teaching classes in Lyndonville again, at NEK Fitness in October of 2013
  • Recognized Kyle Mills as instructor of our first affiliate, “Jitz Happens” in Endicott, NY in 2011
  • Officially re-opened as the LaClair Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense Academy in Newport, VT in 2011
  • Returned to Vermont in 2010 and began teaching classes in Derby, Vermont
  • Began referring to Shokido Jujutsu as Shokido Combat JuJitsu in 2009, updating some belt requirements with curriculum from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.  The difference in name was to help distinguish the difference in purpose between BJJ (sport Jiu-Jitsu) and self-defense (combat JuJutsu).
  • Reopened the LaClair Academy in Binghamton New York in 2009
  • Promoted to Associate Level Grappling Instructor in April 2008 under Roy Harris
  • Closed the LaClair Academy in Lyndonville and moved to Pennsylvania in 2007
  • LaClair Academy student Aaron Fondry wins the 170 pound CHAMPION title in the Burlington Brawl MMA competition in 2007
  • Recognized as Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Professor Roy Harris in 2006
  • Certified as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor under Joe Moreira in 2005
  • Promoted to PURPLE Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by 7th Degree BJJ Black Belt Joe Moreira & BJJ Black Belt Aaron Blake in December 2005 (with Roy Harris’ blessing beforehand, as Master Moreira is Professor Harris’ teacher)
  • Promoted to 5th Degree Black Belt & Master Instructor in Shokido JuJutsu in 2004
  • Promoted to Certified Personal Defense Readiness & SPEAR System “Principles” Instructor, under BTCMS, in 2004
  • Competition:  BJJ Blue Belt 1st Place Champion in 2003, in the Superheavyweight division of the North American Grappling Association New England Championships
  • Promoted to BLUE Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Roy Harris in 2003
  • Changed Academy name to “LaClair Academy of Mixed Martial Arts” in 2002
  • Received certification as “Apprentice Grappling Instructor” under Professor Roy Harris in 2002
  • Joined Harris International Grappling Association in 2002
  • Promoted to 4th Degree Black Belt in Shokido JuJitsu, under Paul Lincolnhunt in 2001
  • Received certification as Ballistic Micro-Fight Scenario Simulation System “Fundamentals” Instructor, under BTCMS in 2000
  • Received certification as a Personal Defense Readiness “Fundamentals” Instructor in 2000 under BTCMS (Blauer Tactical Confrontation Management Systems)
  • Promoted to 3rd Degree Black Belt & Senior Instructor in Shokido JuJitsu under Paul Lincolnhunt in 1998
  • Promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shokido JuJitsu under Paul Lincolnhunt in 1996
  • Opened the Lyndonville Karate & Self Defense Academy in January 1995
  • Began teaching self-defense and martial arts in 1994
  • Awarded 1st Degree Black Belt in Shokido JuJitsu under Founder Paul Lincolnhunt in 1994
  • Awarded 1st Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate under Sensei Paul Lincolnhunt in 1994
